HSMS STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Thanks to Melissa Poore representing Somerset Senior Living at Seven Springs- they sent a very big donation of much needed hygiene products for Middle School and High School students.

8th GRADE MATH

HSMS STUDENT CHOICE
On Friday, Ms. Anderson was selected as the HSMS Student Choice Teacher of the Week by 7th Grader Mya Foster
Mya states, “The teacher that I think should get the teacher award is Ms. Anderson. This is because she is always patient with me and my class, and helps me every time I am struggling on a question. She walks me through the problem making sure I understand what to do. She is always finding ways to make math and the lessons fun! Every time I see her I always have a smile on my face.”
The entire faculty and staff would like to congratulate Ms. Anderson on this awesome award by an awesome student! This is Ms. Anderson’s first year of teaching and she is doing an amazing job! We are so proud of the work you do and are so happy to have you on our staff.

Thank you to the Mayville Engineering Company of Heber Springs on their recent donation to our students. MEC recently donated calculators, earbuds, and many hygiene products for our students and we are very grateful for their generosity!

SCREENINGS FOR REMOTE PANTHERS
Hearing and vision screenings for Remote Panthers will be held on Monday, September 21st, between 8:30 and 11:30.
This is for Remote Panthers in 6th and 8th grade and any 7th grade Remote Panther who is NEW to the district.
Please email Nurse Leslie Williams ASAP at leslie.williams@hss.k12.ar.us to let her know that you will be attending the screening.
If these students wear glasses or contacts, please be sure to wear them the day of screening.

SCREENINGS
The Middle School nurse will be conducting hearing and vision screenings on 6th graders and 8th graders on September 14 and September 22. Remote or flex students will be scheduled to come by appointment at a later time, if they are not in classes during the screening days. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have them on these days. This helps to prevent unnecessary referrals.

HOMEWORK HELP
Middle School Homework Help sessions begin today. Students are able to stay after school Monday through Thursday from 3:30 - 4:30 to receive help with any homework from that day.

Heber Springs School District has been made aware of an alarming social media challenge that is aimed towards children and young adults, called the ‘Momo Challenge.’ We urge all parents to become aware of this threat and monitor their children’s use of social media, apps, and the internet.
The “Momo Challenge” begins with a chat that encourages the receiver to do small tasks and provide photo documentation once completed. It eventually escalates to violent acts including inflicting self-harm, which can be detrimental to impressionable and vulnerable viewers.
Common apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok, Fortnite, and YOUTube Kids have all reported instances of the challenge.
